The Fishers boys basketball team is on a big win streak at the moment, and all those victories are getting the Tigers noticed.
In two polls this week, Fishers is ranked No. 2 in the state. The Tigers are rated second in both the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association’s one-class poll (which you can read on Page 10), and also in the Associated Press Class 4A rankings.
Fishers justified that ranking Tuesday by winning its seventh consecutive game, beating Lafayette Jefferson 58-47 at the Tiger Den. The Tigers built a steady lead in the first half, going up 15-10 after the first quarter and 30-22 at halftime.
Charlie Smith was the leader in the opening period, scoring seven points, including a 3-pointer. Bryce Williams stepped up in the second quarter, making 5 of 6 free throws. The Bronchos were still close after three periods, which ended with Fishers up 41-34. But the Tigers added another 17 points in the fourth to finish the game. Jeffrey Simmons scored five points and Jalen Haralson went 4-of-4 from the line.
Simmons totaled 15 points for Fishers, followed by Smith with 12 and Williams with 10. Sean Millsaps had two 3-pointers.
The Tigers are 12-1 and play another home game Friday, taking on Pike, the No. 19 team in the IBCA poll.
