Sarah Julian, third-grade teacher at Hamilton Heights Elementary School, has been named the March Husky Hero. Sarah exemplifies the very best of what it means to be a Husky educator. As the high-ability teacher in third grade and the PLC leader for her team, she brings exceptional skill, intention, and heart to her work each day. The learning she provides in her classroom embodies the district’s Reaching New Heights goals.

Julian’s commitment to making learning both joyful and rigorous reflects the core values of the district and the vision for every child. Her leadership, professionalism, and genuine kindness are felt across the building.

What makes this honor especially meaningful is that Julian was nominated by one of her own students – a testament to the environment she creates each day in her classroom. Third-grader Emma Morehouse shared:

“Mrs. Julian is a great teacher. I like that Mrs. Julian is passionate about having students create guidelines for themselves. This helps students create a community where everyone feels safe and wanted. Mrs. Julian is very good at seeing every person and celebrating them. She sees our personalities and strengths and helps us use them positively. She provides unique opportunities for us to have fun and learn critical thinking skills. One example is our breakout boxes which teaches us problem solving and how to work together in a really fun way. Mrs. Julian is my Husky Hero.”

Julian shared how deeply this recognition resonates with her.

“Being nominated by a student for this award is incredibly meaningful to me,” she said. “It reassures me that the environment I strive to create in my classroom is making a difference and that students feel it. Knowing my students feel safe and a sense of community in our classroom means everything to me.”

Julian continued, “I enjoy watching students be involved in classroom discussions, collaborative projects, and hands-on experiences. Seeing students grow in confidence, take ownership of their learning, and become excited about coming to school each day is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. This award inspires me to continue doing what I do and serves as a reminder that the relationships and experiences we create in the classroom matter. I will continue to create purposeful and engaging learning experiences for my students while striving to make every child feel supported and capable of success. This motivates me to keep learning, growing, and becoming the best teacher I can be.”
