Hamilton Southeastern split two games on Saturday, April 4 as the Royals wrapped up play at the Donny Everett Classic in Clarksville, Tenn.
First, Southeastern sailed past Henry County (Tenn.) 10-0 in five innings. The Royals scored one run in the second inning when Chase Bradle doubled in Tyler McManama.
Southeastern erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule. Jackson Bixler helped out with a three-run double, then Clark Bucher singled Bixler home for the game-ending run.
Bixler was 4-for-4 at the plate, also hitting a triple. Bucher and Bradle both went 2-for-3, with Bradle driving in three runs for the game. Bixler, McManama and Kian Kelly all scored two runs.
Spencer Mohr pitched all five innings, throwing a no-hitter while striking out five and allowing one walk.
The Royals took on the host Clarksville Cougars in their second game and fell 9-7. It was their first loss of the season.
Parker O’Steen hit a two-out double in the top of the first inning, then Will Johnson came in to run for him. Johnson was soon home, as Conrad Owens hit a left field home run to give HSE an early 2-0 lead.
Clarksville got a run back in the bottom of the second inning, but the Royals responded with three runs in the top of the third. Johnson got home after Adam Hoog reached on error, then Johann Dierker sent a double into center field to score Hogg and Owens and give Southeastern a 5-1 lead.
The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the third to get within 5-4. Owens singled in Johnson in the top of the fourth, but Clarksville hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at 6-6.
Cy Cole got home on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning, pushing the Royals ahead 7-6. Clarksville again tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, then scored twice in the sixth inning. Cole reached on error in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars made three straight flyout catches to get the win.
O’Steen was 3-for-4 at the plate, getting doubles for all of his hits. Owens totaled three RBIs.
Southeastern is 4-1 and begins Hoosier Crossroads Conference play Thursday at Brownsburg.
