Westfield held off Carmel in an all-county girls basketball game Tuesday at Eric Clark Activity Center, with the Shamrocks winning 42-41.
The teams played to a 10-10 tie after one quarter. Lauren Perry hit two 3-pointers for the Greyhounds, while Ellie Kelleher scored five, including a triple, for Westfield. The ‘Rocks began to pull away in the second quarter, leading 22-17 at halftime, then increased their lead to 34-22 after three periods. Lindsey Van Dyke took over by scoring 11 points in those two quarters, including a pair of 3s.
Carmel came back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 41-41, with Perry scoring seven points. Kelleher put Westfield back in front with a free throw, and that combined with a defensive stop helped the Shamrocks hold on for the win.
Van Dyke finished the game with 15 points for Westfield. Perry scored 15 for the ‘Hounds, followed by Mackenzie Woods with 10.
The ‘Rocks are 7-1 and winners of five straight games. They play a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Saturday at Zionsville. Carmel is 5-5; the Greyhounds beat Richmond 53-25 last Saturday. Carmel hosts Fort Wayne Snider Saturday afternoon.
