Westfield dropped its first game of the season Friday, as the Shamrocks were edged out 60-57 in their Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener at Zionsville.
Westfield led 6-5 after one quarter, but the Eagles took over in the second period, jumping ahead to a 26-16 halftime lead. Drew Haffner scored 10 points in the first half for the ‘Rocks.
Zionsville added to its lead in the third quarter to go up 38-26 as the game entered the fourth quarter. Westfield went on a tear in that period, pouring in 31 points, including 19 from Haffner. Brock Detamore scored eight points in the fourth. But the Eagles held on for the win.
Haffner totaled 29 points, including six 3s. Detamore finished with 12 points.
The Shamrocks are 2-1 and host Guerin Catholic next Friday.
