Rocks cruise past Franklin Central

Westfield finished its Hoosier Crossroads Conference and regular season Friday, Oct. 17 with an easy 42-7 win at Franklin Central.

Isaac Weingart got the Shamrocks on the board in the first quarter with a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown. Aiden Grabowski extended the lead to 14-0 in the second quarter with his first touchdown run.

The Flashes scored to cut Westfield’s lead to 14-7, but Baylor Conner answered that with a TD run. Grabowski then ran in two more touchdowns to finish the half, and the Rocks led 35-7 at the break. Diego Herrera kicked all five extra points.

Westfield scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter. Elliot Clevenger punched the ball in, and Nick Beam made the extra-point kick to institute a running clock.

Conner led the rushing with 131 yards. Cooper Melvin had an efficient night, completing 13 of 22 pass attempts for 113 yards. Broc Parker caught four of those throws. Weingart led the defense with 11 total tackles (five solo, six assists), with Alex Aramboles making 1.5 tackles for a loss. Aramboles, Sullivan Meehan and Zane Newman all made one sack.

Westfield finished HCC play 6-1, placing second in the league standings. The Shamrocks are 7-2 for the season and are off this week. Westfield hosts Zionsville Oct. 31 in the semifinals of Class 6A Sectional 3.
