Reid wins Girls Central Masters

Carmel’s Karis Reid played steady golf at the Central Junior Masters tournament, and her reward was a championship plaque.

Reid, a sophomore-to-be for the Greyhounds, scored 147 to claim the Masters Girls title at the event, which took place at Harrison Hills Golf Club in Attica on Sunday and Monday, July 12 and 13. Reid finished four strokes ahead of the runner-up, Noblesville’s Lauren Turpin, and her score of 151.

Reid finished the tournament with six birdies, making four in the first round and two in the second round.

Turpin collected three first-round birdies; she is an incoming junior for the Millers. County golfers swept the top three: Westfield incoming sophomore Laila Abriani placed third with 154; she totaled three birdies, making two in the second round and one in the first round.

In the Masters boys tournament, Fishers’ Zach Kinzer finished as the runner-up. Kinzer and Pendleton’s Zachary Zoeller both scored 146 for the tournament; Zoeller won a playoff for the championship.

Kinzer, an incoming sophomore at Hamilton Southeastern, made three birdies during the event; two on Sunday and one on Monday. Noblesville’s Andrew Williamson, an incoming senior at Guerin Catholic, scored 147 to finish third. Williamson drained five second-round birdies.
