Reader’s suggestion for 911 funding

Dear Editor:

After reading the Fred Swift article (11-15-2017) about additional funding needed from rural townships to fund the 911 emergency call center, I researched my files and my present phone bills . . . Old notes suggest fees included and identified as “State emergency taxes” and “911 taxes” in my phone bills will fund this emergency call center services.

For me with three lines including the cell phone the current charge is $3 per month and apparently is a never ending charge.

Since it is now fashionable to overuse the word “TRANSPARENCY” I for one was wondering what has happened to the large local surplus of funds (millions) that was maintained by the county in a separate account as a result of the $1 fee each month that is collected from every phone number/subscriber in the county and maybe the state? How about a discussion on these fees before further attempting to spread out the cost of the numerous duplicated operations!

Many questions are presumed to be unanswered and as suggested maybe it’s time for complete transparency!
