Pleasant, 19th streets roundabout warranty work to begin next week

Warranty work for the asphalt surface at 19th and Pleasant streets roundabout will take place during the week of May 13. Motorists should expect delays as the contractor will mill and resurface the entire project area. Work is scheduled to take five days – weather permitting – and the roadway will remain open during that time with flaggers directing motorists.

“We must hold the contractor responsible. The asphalt surface does not meet our standards and would require resurfacing much earlier than it should – which would cost our taxpayers,” Assistant City Engineer Jim Hellmann said.

Approximately 15,000 vehicles travel through the intersection daily. In the fall, the three-leg intersection with 19th Street under stop control was converted to a single lane roundabout – providing vehicles with safer and more efficient travel at that location. Lighting and sidewalks also were installed.

The overall project cost approximately $1 million, but because of funding received from the Indiana Department of Transportation the City of Noblesville’s portion is $194,284. Next week’s warranty work will not be an additional charge to the project.
