Paul C. Sweeney announces candidacy for Hamilton Superior Court 9 Judge

Submitted

Paul C. Sweeney, a longtime Carmel resident and attorney with over 28 years of legal experience, has announced his candidacy for Judge of the newly established Hamilton County Superior Court 9. This court was created by the Indiana General Assembly, set to begin operations on Jan. 1, 2027.

Sweeney’s decision to run for judge reflects his long-standing commitment to public service and his desire to give back to the community that shaped him.

“Since moving to Indiana nearly 40 years ago, I’ve been inspired by the servant leadership of my mother, mother-in-law, and so many others in our community,” he said. “Serving as a judge would allow me to continue that legacy and give back to a place that has given so much to me.”

A Carmel resident since high school, Sweeney is a graduate of Carmel High School, Indiana University, and the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law, magna cum laude. His career spans representing individuals to Fortune 500 companies, with more than 60 trials and arbitrations across the country. He currently serves as Senior Counsel at Ice Miller LLP, focusing on commercial, labor, employment, wage and hour, and non-compete litigation, as well as general business counsel and advice.

Beyond the courtroom, Sweeney is deeply engaged in his community. He is completing his second three-year term on the Faith Formation Council at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. He has also served his church as a volunteer youth minister for almost 20 years and has held leadership roles with other Hamilton County community organizations, e.g., the Carmel Symphony Orchestra and the United Way of Central Indiana – Hamilton County Advisory Board. In 2019, he was recognized with the James Krupowicz Award for outstanding catechist, honoring his two decades of service at St. Maria Goretti.

Sweeney says he plans to bring his extensive litigation experience to the bench and supports expanding the problem-solving courts in Hamilton County, including a mental health court.
