Patricia Herring

January 20, 1928 – June 21, 2018

Patricia Herring, 90, Carmel, passed away on June 21, 2018. She was born on January 20, 1928 in Indianapolis to Clifford and Edna Jarvis. Patricia was talented in art, music, and sang in the Choir.

Patricia was a lifelong Volunteer, starting early in the 1960s. She first organized a group of women to work in the Detroit projects in the HeadStart Program after the 1967 riots. She also worked in the Hematology Department of the Children’s Hospital in Detroit, doing intake and assisting children with leukemia. Patricia continued her volunteering though several ways; she was a Leader of the Girl Scout Caddette Troop, VP of the PTA, Mileage Campaign Precinct Chairman, a Presbyterian Elder, and she was on the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Auxiliary Board. She was also on the Carmel Symphony Guild Board, Carmel Fountain Square Committee, Carmel Green Space, the Indianapolis Arts Center, and she volunteered on many art projects during the years for organizations and friends!

Alongside the volunteering she also was a manager of an Employment Agency, then a manager of Adult Placement Center for Troy, Mich. Schools, and later she was a coordinator of Volunteers for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Patricia was a proud member of the Indiana Artist Club, Hoosier Salon, and the Watercolor Society of Indiana. She was also instrumental in development of the Carmel Gazebo Concert Series.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Herring; daughter, Jakota Herring; and son, Douglas Herring. She preceded in death her daughter, Cynthia Leigh Blanchette, whom passed away the following day.

A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 in the Robertson Chapel at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, IN.
