The weather can wreak havoc and rearrange spring sports schedules in a heartbeat. That’s what happened for Noblesville last Friday, as Game 2 of its Hoosier Crossroads Conference series slated for that evening at Franklin Central got postponed to last Saturday morning.
While they got down early, the Millers battled back in the late innings to take down the Flashes, 10-3, sweeping the two-game series.
The Flashes scored twice in the bottom of the first to go up 2-0, chasing starter Beckett Doane and bringing Eli Hall out of the bullpen.
Noblesville cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth. Aiden Reynolds led off with a base hit to center. Cole Schott followed by getting hit by a pitch. Tanner Miller’s bunt attempt popped out to the catcher for the first out. Aiden Ramsey walked to load the bases. Chris Martz reached on an error by the FC shortstop, scoring Reynolds to make it 2-1.
Franklin Central added another run with two down in the home half of the fourth.
Garrett Dixon lined a single to center to start the fifth. Trevor Corbett got hit by a pitch for runners at first and second. Reynolds doubled to right to send Corbett home to close the gap to 3-2.
Dixon’s two-run grounder to left scored Martz and Glander to put the Millers ahead 4-3, a lead they would build on and not give back. Reynolds drove in Luke Hagelskamp and Adam Gaskill on a hard hit to left, extending it to 6-3.
Corbett kept it going in the top of the seventh with a two-run double, sending both Glander and Martz home and it was 8-3.
Then, with two down Tanner Miller continued the trend of doubles. Jalen Stidham and Zac Glander scored for the final score of 10-3.
Reynolds led the Millers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Garrett Dixon had a 2-for-3 day, also driving in a pair. Joe Glander and Martz each scored twice.
Doane started the game and was relieved early by Hall. He struck out five total, coming back in to relieve Hall late in the game. Hall worked 4.2 innings, striking out nine.
Noblesville (7-8) gets back at it tonight at Dunker Field in an all-county game against Hamilton Heights (4-7) at 6 p.m.
