Noblesville’s Promise Road Elementary School Principal Christy Martino and Assistant Principal Billy Fama flew over their school Thursday in World War II Stearman biplanes to celebrate the Promise Road PTO meeting its $25,000 fundraising goal.

The flights were courtesy of Larry Jacobi, a former school board member and NHS math teacher, and pilot Trip Kelleher. Jacobi has been flying for over 50 years and owns the Noblesville airport near Promise Road Elementary. He and Kelleher flew the principals over the school three times and then took them on extended flights over Noblesville.

As they were boarding, Martino reported being “terrified, but also super excited.” She connected her fear of trying a new experience with the lessons of perseverance, strength, and determination the administration, staff, and teachers focus on with their students.

Promise Road’s 750 students watched the flyover excitedly from their playground. Parents were invited to attend, too.

The money raised for the school will be used to fund new playground equipment and soccer goals.
