Noblesville police investigating two-car crash on State Road 37

At approximately 8:03 a.m. Monday, Noblesville police officers responded to the 19700 block of State Road 37 in Noblesville in reference to a report of a crash involving two vehicles.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later and located the vehicles. Each vehicle was occupied by a driver and no passengers.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements seem to indicate that a 2016 Kia Soul was traveling northbound on SR 37 and appears to have crossed into the southbound lane of SR 37 where the road transitions from a four-lane divided highway into a two-lane highway. The Kia collided head-on with a 2006 Dodge Charger that was traveling southbound on SR 37.

The driver of the Kia was identified as Nicole R. Townley, 44, Noblesville. She was transported by ground ambulance to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital (Indianapolis) with life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the Dodge was identified as Kristine S. Tishner, 39, Noblesville. She was transported by air ambulance to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital (Indianapolis) with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Noblesville Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit was summoned to the scene to investigate the crash.

Southbound traffic on SR 37 was diverted onto Promise Road and northbound SR 37 traffic onto 191st Street while investigators collected evidence and investigated the crash. Those road closures/lane restrictions were in place until 11:30 a.m. Monday when the scene was released.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
