In an effort to assist families in need, the Noblesville Police Department and the White River Christian Church are partnering to create a food bag program. The program is designed around the idea that some families are in need of basic essentials, like food, but are not always aware of available services in the community. Police officers are sometimes involved in situations in which those needs are readily apparent and this program offers the ability to have an immediate impact on the family by distributing a bag of food while also providing additional information about assistance and services.
Police officers will carry a bag of non-perishable food that will feed a family of three to five people for approximately three to five days. The officers will distribute the bags as needed and provide families with information regarding times and locations of food pantries, numbers for area shelters and contact information for the Salvation Army which also has services for rent, utilities, education, etc.
The White River Christian Church food pantry currently assists upwards of 225 families each week. The pantry is available from 1 to 6 p.m. each Thursday and is located at 1605 N. 10th St., Noblesville, IN 46060.
