Noblesville Main Street (NMS) and the Noblesville Preservation Alliance (NPA) will soon present Noblesville Heritage Days on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3.
The two organizations are bringing NMS’ Fall Fest and Downtown Unseen Tour together with NPA’s 39th annual Historic Home Tour for a full weekend.
Fall Fest will happen on the historic downtown square both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s activities include trick or treating at participating downtown businesses, a hayride, artisan vendors and other fall activities as part of First Friday.
The Downtown Unseen Tour runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. Visitors can explore parts of downtown’s historic buildings that aren’t usually open to the public, either with a guide or on their own. Check in begins at 5 p.m. outside the historic courthouse at the orange Noblesville Main Street tent.
Saturday’s Historic Home Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s tour includes nine historic locations, consisting of eight houses and one feature location. Among them is the William Houston Craig House.
Particularly exciting is the Craig House because it’s part of NPA’s own history. When a church expansion threatened the house with demolition, members of the newly formed Noblesville Preservation Alliance worked with church members and local residents to help save it. The house weighed 300 tons and was lifted off its foundation and moved across Conner Street to where it stands today.
Home tour check-in starts Saturday at 10 a.m. at the burgundy NPA tent on the downtown square. Fall Fest will continue for a second day on the historic square, along with Antiques in the Alley, in the East Alley, which is put on annually by a downtown merchant, and the Indiana Peony Festival Dahlia Market, at Seminary Park, which is one of the Home Tour Feature Locations due to the significance of that location to Noblesville’s history.
On Saturday evening, there will also be “From Historic Homes to Heritage Tables: An Oktoberfest Supper” with Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad (NPHR). The buffet features German food and begins at 6 p.m., giving people two hours between the end of the home tour and dinner. The meal will be served aboard the train, which will remain stationary.
Dinner tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. Guests can choose a Home Tour/Dinner Combo ticket or a ticket just for dinner.
Tour tickets are available for either day, along with a discounted weekend bundle. Tickets purchased the day of each tour will cost the same as advance tickets and can be purchased on 9th Street on the historic downtown square at either the NMS tent or the NPA tent. Saturday home tour tickets will also be available in person at the Dahlia Market at Seminary Park.
