Nickel Plate Trail tunnel ahead of schedule

Portion of 116th Street in Fishers reopens today to single-lane traffic

The City of Fishers announced Friday that despite the nearly record rainfalls over the last 45 days, the Nickel Plate Trail pedestrian tunnel currently under construction beneath 116th Street is ahead of schedule.

Today, 116th Street between Municipal Drive and Maple Street reopens to a single lane of traffic in each direction. Additional lanes will remain closed until Aug. 1 as workers the finishing touches on this project.

The road reopening comes ahead of a busy week of events around Fishers’ Nickel Plate District, including the Shop Fishers: Summer Series, running now through Friday, July 23; the Fishers Farmers’ Market today at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater (NPD AMP); Shakespeare in the Park: Much Ado About Nothing, next Wednesday evening at the AMP; and the Summer Concert Series with free shows on Tuesday and Friday evenings at the AMP.
