Arcadia residents and visitors get to experience new public art in the downtown area thanks to banners created by 14 Hamilton Heights High School students.

The banners were made possible in part by Nickel Plate Arts and the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“The kids did such a terrific job,” Arcadia Clerk-Treasurer Jennifer Pickett said. “The banners really have brought life to our downtown and we appreciate each and every one of them.”

The Indiana Arts Commission’s support enabled the Town of Arcadia to award $250 scholarships to each student. Six students created two banners and received an additional $100. The students were Mady Gray, Max Bowman, Aurelia Lanzerotti, Kait Roa, Gabe Rossa, Madison Bowman, Kaleb Murray, Colleen Ginnan, Mayson Leonard, Lydia Lytle, Grace Hunt, Samantha Burk, Abigail Burk, and Madison Hoggard.

This evening’s farmers market in Arcadia will feature a “Back to School” theme. The banners will serve as a backdrop for the event.

“We hope everyone will come to downtown on Thursday to enjoy a huge farmers market with lots of activities for all ages,” Pickett said. “Be sure to stop by your favorite banner and enjoy a photo opportunity!”

The market will run from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, Aug. 3.
