The first weekend of August marked “National Twins Day,” a special celebration that Hamilton County Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt takes seriously. Mark Heirbrandt, an identical twin himself, has twin sons, and his twin brother Mike has triplets.

“Growing up a twin was so fun. You always had a best friend to play with. It’s been cool to see the closeness and unique nuances that come with being a twin (and triplets) continue in our family,” said Heirbrandt.

In 2016 while Mark Heirbrandt was campaigning for Hamilton County Commissioner, his twin brother showed up at a debate while Mark was attending another campaign event. It caused quite the stir, as many people thought Mark was two places at once.

While there are many twins who celebrate National Twins Day, there are not many who can say that there are that many twins or triplets in their immediate family.

National Twin Day started in 1976, in the town of Twinsburg, Ohio. The town began holding an annual twins festival that still takes place today.
