Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre (GHDT) presents Antony & Cleopatra, a retelling of the classic tale, this June at The Tarkington at Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts, 3 Carter Green, Carmel.
The first show is at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, and the second takes place at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 6.
Synopsis
Enter the world of Club Isis, a place where stars are born and hearts are broken. This is not a distant tale, but one that takes place at your favorite nightclub in the City, with style to die for.
Antony & Cleopatra tells the classic tale of love and betrayal, lost fortunes and miscommunications, that spiral into tragedy. Set to the lush, original contemporary rock score composed by Cory Gabel, this is a truly inclusive nightclub event to be embraced by all. This lush, crystal encrusted, full-length production takes place in Club Isis, and centers around Caesar Octavian; a music mogul, and his partner and rock star, Marc Antony. Their uneasy alliance is strained when Marc Antony, married to Caesar’s sister, falls hopelessly in love with Cleopatra, the beautiful Drag Queen and star of Club Isis. What follows is a classic Shakespearean tale of domination, deceit, loyalty lost, trust shattered, and love torn.
Danced to perfection by GHDT and accompanied by an electrifying commissioned rock score by Cory Gabel, Antony & Cleopatra is a sparkling summer kick-off and a celebration of Pride Month.
Mr. Hancock and Mr. Gabel will discuss this collaborative effort onstage in a pre-performance talk, and enjoy the world premiere launch of the soundtrack onto streaming services.
