The Noblesville gymnastics team opened its season with a three-team meet against Bloomington South and Guerin Catholic Monday at Bloomington South.
The Millers finished second in the meet with a score of 90.675. Bloomington South won with 101.175 while the Golden Eagles, competing with one gymnast, scored 23.50.
Noblesville’s highest score of the night came on vault, typically its strongest event. Senior Hailey Knoll scored an 8.40, good for fourth place, while freshman Charlotte Moise was fifth with an 8.325. Moise had the highest place of the night, as she took third on the uneven bars with a 7.65. Lyrric Barnett placed fifth on bars.
Millers coach Jody Kiovsky said she “was pleased to see our team perform as well as we did” for its first competition on bars, as they struggled with it last season. “I am hopeful that this sets the tone for us on bars,” said Kiovsky.
Barnett finished fourth on the balance beam, including a “beam stick,” while Knoll took sixth on that event. Knoll placed fifth in the floor exercise, with Moise taking sixth. Knoll scored 30.50 in the all-around, followed by 30.025 for Moise and 29.875 for Barnett.
Kiovsky said that she was very pleased overall. “We have great potential with this team as we move forward into the competition season,” she said.
Guerin Catholic sophomore Harleigh Abbott represented the Golden Eagles at the meet. Abbott totaled 23.50 for her all-around score; her best score was an 8.175 on vault.
Noblesville’s next meet is Monday, when it hosts Lapel in the Millers’ home opener.
