Millers beat Gary 21st Century for third place at their own invitational

The Noblesville boys basketball team finished third in its own invitational last Friday.

The Millers were stunned by Brebeuf Jesuit 47-46 in their opening-round game. Noblesville led 14-11 after the first quarter and 26-22 at halftime. The Braves came back to tie the game at 32-32 by the end of the third period. The Millers led 46-39 with 20.8 seconds to go, but Brebeuf finished the game with eight consecutive points, finishing with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Justin Curry led Noblesville with 17 points, while Baron Walker scored 10 points. Both pulled six rebounds.

The Millers beat Gary 21st Century 50-41 in the third-place game. Both teams scored 10 points in the first quarter, then the Cougars jumped ahead to lead 27-21 at halftime. Noblesville came back to tie the contest at 35-35 after three, then outscored 21st Century 15-6 in the fourth.

Curry and Walker both scored 17 points, with Curry making four 3s and Walker hitting three 3s. Walker also collected nine rebounds, with Ryan Vetor getting seven and Curry pulling six.

The Millers are 5-3 and play at Warren Central on Friday before hosting Arsenal Tech on Saturday.
