Mabel A. (Hopkins) Clark

March 17, 1940 – November 12, 2023

Mabel A. (Hopkins) Clark, 83, Noblesville, passed away on November 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 17, 1940, in Bartholomew County. Mabel’s parents Lloyd and Lillian (Brattain) Hopkins preceded her in death.

Mabel was a graduate of Sheridan High School, Class of 1958.

She met her husband while attending high school and she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, and on October 6, 1957, in Sheridan, she married Cowan J. “Boone” Clark and they have been at each other’s side for 66 years.

Mabel had a servant heart and that led her to work as a nurse’s aide taking care of people.

Mabel loved sports and the life lessons that playing taught her. She continued to play softball in adult leagues for years and cherished the many friendships and memories that were made along the way.

She was very involved in her children’s lives. When her kids started playing sports she jumped right in as a team mom. While her kids were playing youth sports, she was always there to cheer them on, and as her family grew, she was there to cheer her grandchildren on as well. In her early years, she was a member of the Home Ec. Club in Westfield.

Boone and Mable enjoyed camping, especially with their family. They held a permanent camping spot at Old Mill Run for 15 years. After Boone retired, the two of them would pull their camper to Gulf Shores, Ala., and stay there through winter. When spring arrived in Indiana, they would pull the camper back to Old Mill Run in Thorntown.

Family was the most important thing to her and Boone, and it was important that they raised their family on a strong foundation. She leaves behind her loving husband, Boone; and their three children, Kathy Killen, Jenny (Bill) Higginbotham, and Chris Clark. She was a loving grandmother to Brandy Hoover, Toni (Thomas) Kinney, Kyle (Angie) Killen, Jennifer Higginbotham, Erica (Brian) Cooper, Mellisa Shank, Mollie Higginbotham, Amber (Jeff) Copeland, Jacob (Kim) Clark, and Joshua (Sarah) Clark. She was a proud great-grandmother to 26 great-grandchildren. Mabel is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mabel in death are her seven siblings.

A celebration of Mabel’s life will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Circle of Hope Wesleyan Church, 396 Park St., Noblesville, where family and friends are invited to gather from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
