Looking for adventure? United Way wants you to skydive, rappel down building for a cause

Over two days in August, thrill-seeking philanthropists will rappel down a 23-story building in downtown Indianapolis and skydive from 13,000 feet in the air – all while raising funds to help their Central Indiana neighbors.

Registration is now open for two different United Way of Central Indiana events, “Over the Edge” and “Sky High,” scheduled for Aug. 10 and 11. Both raise money for United Way’s basic needs initiatives, which help provide Hoosiers with access to food, housing, transportation, and health services.

At United Way’s fourth “Over the Edge” Aug. 11, participants will rappel down the Keystone Group’s building at 220 N. Meridian St. in downtown Indianapolis.

New this year, United Way has added a second day of thrills: “Sky High: Parachuting with a Purpose.” On Aug. 10, adventurers will tandem skydive from the Frankfort Municipal Airport with instructors certified by the United States Parachute Association.

The rappelling event is limited to the first 80 people over age 13 who register, and the skydiving event is limited to the first 40 people over age 18 who sign up. Participants commit to raising at least $1,500. Those who want to do both events must raise a minimum of $2,500.
