Local legislators recently welcomed Carmel students to the Statehouse where they participated in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2024 legislative session.
“This learning opportunity provides students the chance to spend the day at the Statehouse and interact with their local leaders,” State Rep. Jerry Torr (R-Carmel) said. “It’s always exciting for me to meet young Hoosiers from our community and see them so engaged.”
As pages, the students assisted lawmakers and staff with daily duties, toured offices of all branches of government in the Statehouse, and joined lawmakers on the House floor to witness and learn about the legislative process.
“The House Page Program is one of the best opportunities for students to go behind the scenes and learn how state government impacts their lives,” State Rep. Donna Schaibley (R-Carmel) said. “These students were able to meet their state representatives and better understand how their elected officials work for not only their communities, but also the entire state.”
These Carmel students served as pages during the 2024 legislative session:
- Walker Lasbury, who attends Carmel High School.
- Chloe Lutz, who attends Creekside Middle School.
- Ethan Morgel, who attends Creekside Middle School.
- Anika Veerapaneni, who attends Clay Middle School.
State Rep. Chuck Goodrich (R-Noblesville) said students aged 13 to 18 should consider participating during the 2025 legislative session.
“Paging is an easy way for young Hoosiers to get involved in state government,” Goodrich said. “Experiencing the legislative session from the House Chamber is a unique experience, and I encourage students in our area to sign up for this exciting and educational program next year.”
