Judith Lynn Hawkins, 78, Arcadia, passed away on January 2, 2024, at IU Health Tipton Hospital in Tipton, Ind.
She was born on April 26, 1945, in East St. Louis, Ill., to William Bernard and Helen Ruth (Burcham) Strauss. She attended schools in East St. Louis and completed her education in Indiana. Her moving to Indiana happened because she met and married a young man who was serving his country in the U.S. Army nearby and was an Indiana resident.
Judi, as she was known was a kind, friendly lady with a sweet smile and easy laugh. Right away she fit in the Cicero and Arcadia small town communities.
She married John Raymond Hawkins on June 7, 1963, and they were blessed with a daughter, Robin (Rex) McKinney, and a son, Robert (Delisa) Hawkins. Early in her career she enjoyed working as a librarian in the Cicero Elementary School. She later became employed at Allison Transmission Company in Indianapolis where for several years she manufactured parts for large transmissions.
Her parents, William and Helen Strauss, and a sister, Sharon Strauss, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, John Raymond Hawkins; daughter, Robin (Rex) McKinney of Cicero; a son, Robert (Delisa) Hawkins of Fairmount, Ind.; a sister, Connie Dunn; and a brother, Steve Strauss. Additional survivors include grandchildren, Ross, Austin, Trent, and Jay McKinney, and Faith Boyer, Hannah and Ethan Hawkins; and great-grandchildren, Lyndon, Hudson, Henry, Raelynn, Reagan, Ian, Rose, and Mackenzie McKinney.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with burial to follow at Cicero Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the services.
