July 16, 1979 – December 5, 2024
Jeffrey William Friar, 45, passed away in his Fishers home, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with brain cancer on December 5, 2024. He was born July 16, 1979, in Charleston, S.C., son of Jane Treacy (Mike Treacy – stepfather), Don Friar (Tracy Wade – stepmother and Debbie Friar – stepmother).
Jeff attended Hamilton Southeastern in Elementary and Junior High and was a 1998 graduate of Tri-West High School in Lizton, Ind. In his professional life, he worked primarily in the golf industry. He moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 2008 to pursue a career in golf, where he earned a degree from the Golf Academy of America. He worked for many years in Scottsdale, Ariz., at Silverado Golf Course. In 2021, Jeff moved back to Indiana where he found his true passion as a golf instructor at the Golf School of Indiana building an adoring client base of golfers young and old.
Beginning at a young age, Jeff became passionate about sports and physical fitness. During his early years, he competed in many sports including soccer, wrestling and football – winning a State Title in 1997 with his high school football team. Jeff was an avid weightlifter his entire life. He won second place competing in a bodybuilding competition in 2016. Jeff’s favorite sport became golf where he was a scratch golfer with several holes in one. He also loved the outdoors, particularly in Arizona where he hiked to the top of many local peaks and even summited the tallest in the state. His favorite team was always the Chicago Bears despite being from Indiana.
Personally, Jeff was always a crowd favorite because of his fun and outgoing personality. Naturally, he was crowned Homecoming King his senior year of high school. Jeff was very patient and was always a calming influence and the first to mediate any disagreement. He was a night owl staying up late into the night diving deep into favorite topics such as cars and spirituality. Jeff was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a favorite brother to his siblings.
Jeff also loved dogs, being especially fond of the family dog, Abbey, a Boston Terrier. He eventually had his own dog, Tiva, a Pitt Bull who recently preceded him in death.
Survivors include his parents, Jane Treacy and Don Friar, stepparents Michael Treacy, Tracy Wade and Debbie Friar; siblings, Jason Friar, Cole Treacy, Mariah Loyd, Wren Moffitt, Daniel Friar and Erin Friar; six nieces and nephews along with many loving friends and relatives.
Jeff was taken from us far too soon and we will miss him terribly.
Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, North Chapel, 1605 E. 106th St., Indianapolis, where the funeral service will begin at noon.
Burial will immediately follow in Carmel Cemetery. Also, a reception will take place back at the church, after the burial.
In memory of Jeff, contributions can be made to Community North MD Anderson (In Designation drop-down, please select Oncology Patient assistance) or to Lucci’s House Bully Rescue (Go to “More” and then select “Ways to Help”).
