James’ passion for sports shines through as he speaks of “his teams.” He loves the Indians, Colts, Pacers and the Fever and enjoys going to their games. James is especially proud of the hats and T-shirts that he has, which represent his favorite teams.

Not too long ago, buying those game tickets and team apparel seemed like a distant and impossible dream.

James started his journey towards community employment by participating in the Janus Work Experience program. He was able to quickly gain a variety of new skills as he worked in a pre-vocational program at the Janus facility. By working in a small group, assisted by program instructors, James received the job training and assistance he needed to successfully complete work assignments.

Before too long, it was evident that James was ready to seek employment at a local business. He began meeting with a Janus employment specialist who assisted him in finding a job that was a good fit and would allow James to utilize his skills.

James now has a job at IMMI and can buy game tickets and sports apparel with some of the money he earns. He takes great pride in the job he does in the recycling department of IMMI. James enjoys working in the community and being part of the great IMMI team. Being employed has been a life-changing experience for James.

In addition to his job, James serves as the president of the Fishers Aktion Club, a community service club for individuals living with disabilities. Going to work and earning a paycheck, participating in social organizations, and creating a well-rounded life while using one’s talents are goals that all hope to achieve.

Everyone at Janus believes that a disability should not limit a person’s hopes and dreams. James is now definitely living his dreams of working, earning a paycheck and of course, cheering on his beloved teams.
