A couple of familiar golfers are making an impact at the Indiana PGA Open Championship, which is taking place early this week at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus.
Jeff Doty, a Carmel graduate, is the leading Hamilton County man so far. Doty, an incoming redshirt sophomore at the University of Kansas, is currently fifth after posting a six-under par 138 – two 69s in the first and second rounds. Doty has made eight birdies for the tournament.
Westfield’s Timmy Hildebrand is tied for eighth place with a four-under par 140, including nine birdies. Hildebrand recently graduated from Purdue and was part of two state champion teams for the Shamrocks.
Three players with Hamilton County ties are tied for 10th with three-under par 141s. They include Johnny Watts, a Hamilton Southeastern and Ball State graduate (seven birdies), Fishers’ Andy Winings (seven birdies), and Vince Drahman (nine birdies), a Noblesville and IUPUI graduate.
The third and final round of the tournament takes place today. Players will tee off between 8:30 and 10:18 a.m.
