Health officials offering COVID tests for students in Fishers schools

The Fishers Health Department has announced that effective Jan. 10, it will provide COVID-19 testing for students in kindergarten through grade 12 in the Hamilton Southeastern school district.

HSE Schools is Indiana’s fourth-largest school district with more than 22,000 students and two high schools. The HSE Schools COVID Tracker on Saturday showed a total of 43 cases and absences among staff members, and 1,113 among students since Dec. 6.

The department will give polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.

The testing hours at the health department, located at 2 Municipal Drive, Fishers, will be open from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday; 3 to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday; and noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. People can register online for the tests for students at fishers.in.us/SchoolTesting

Rapid tests are available only through appointments for people 18 and younger, and 50 and older via a state website.


Fishers sees highest ever monthly case number

According to data from the Fishers Health Department, December 2021 saw the highest number of cases – 3,184 – since the creation of the department.

FHD is urging residents to get vaccinated to help decrease the level of community transmission of COVID-19. In addition, the health department says residents should continue masking in public places, wash their hands, and social distance.
