In recognition of Prevail, Inc.’s 40 years of providing life-saving services to survivors of crime and abuse, Hamilton County Parks and Recreation (HCPR) has planted and dedicated a serviceberry tree in the organization’s honor at Cool Creek Park.
The tree was unveiled on Thursday, Oct. 8, by Prevail Executive Director Tami Wanninger and Hamilton County Parks & Recreation Director Chris Stice.
The dedicated tree provides a place for reflection while symbolizing growth, hope and healing. As the tree grows, it will serve as a meaningful tribute to the over 70,000 survivors who have found support through Prevail and a reminder of the organization’s ongoing work in the community.
“We are thrilled to honor Prevail during their 40th anniversary year and to help raise awareness of their important work throughout Hamilton County, especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” Stice said. “As people pass by, we hope they are inspired to learn more, start conversations and consider how they can help create a safer community for everyone.”
The tree also carries special significance during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A purple ribbon has been placed around the tree and will remain throughout the month as a visible reminder of the importance of community awareness and prevention.
“We are grateful to Hamilton County Parks and Recreation for honoring Prevail’s 40 years of service,” Wanninger said. “Prevail’s work has always been deeply rooted in community and a tree felt like a special way to capture that connection. Just as a tree grows strong with deep roots and the right support, survivors can find strength and healing when they have a community that stands beside them.”
