Sheridan rolled to its fifth straight Hoosier Heartland Conference win on Friday, beating Taylor 47-0 in an away game.
The Blackhawks had several players step up to score touchdowns. Silas DeVaney threw for two TDs, one to Cayden Hunter in the first quarter and another to Keenan Warren early in the second period.
“It was a good win for us,” said Sheridan coach Bud Wright.
The ‘Hawks were dealt with adversity early in the game when Cameron Hovey, their star running back, was injured.
“He’s probably out for six weeks,” said Wright.
That meant other Sheridan players had to step up, and they did. Evan Bourdon scored three rushing touchdowns, two in the second period and one in the third. Gavin Renner and Cale Cummings also picked up running scores in the second half. Dylan Cork stepped in as kicker and converted four extra-point kicks.
Wright was pleased that his team stepped up, noting it’s what good ball clubs do. Bourdon finished the game with 130 yards in 22 carries, while Renners gained 113 yards in nine rushes. DeVaney completed 4 of 8 passes for 71 yards.
Sheridan remains unbeaten in HHC play at 5-0. Eastern is still in second place at 4-0. Next week, the Blackhawks take a break from conference action, playing at Seeger.
