Guerin Catholic falls to Bishop Chatard, finish season 8-3

Guerin Catholic saw its season come to an end on Friday, as the host Golden Eagles fell to Bishop Chatard 21-10 in the semifinals of Class 3A Sectional 28 at the Eagles Nest.

The sectional game was a rematch, as the two teams played a Week 6 thriller that finished with an overtime victory for the Trojans. It looked as if this game would be close as well. The score was 7-7 after the first quarter; Peter Rooney made a three-yard run for the Golden Eagles, followed by a Peyton Butts extra-point kick.

Those were the first points of the game, so GC led 7-0. Chatard scored a few minutes later on a 58-yard passing touchdown from Aidan Arteaga to Sam Feeney. Arteaga then threw a 46-yard scoring pass to Colin Guy, which gave the Trojans a 14-7 lead.

Butts kicked a 32-yard field goal right before halftime to get Guerin Catholic within 14-10. But the Golden Eagles would not score again. Meanwhile, Arteaga and Guy connected for a nine-yard touchdown throw during the first minute of the second half, and the 21-10 score would held for the remainder of the game.

Guerin Catholic quarterback Ryan Zimmerman performed well, making 17 of 30 pass attempts for 126 yards. Malcolm Houze had six of those receptions.

The Golden Eagles finished their season 8-3.
