Golden Eagles put up most points in a game since 2016
Guerin Catholic got back on the winning track in grand fashion Friday, as the Golden Eagles soared to a 59-35 win over Northview at the Eagles Nest.
Those 59 points were the most scored by a Guerin Catholic team since the Golden Eagles put up 60 points on Broad Ripple back in 2016. Guerin’s offense produced 374 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns.
Luke Moody started the scoring with a 94-yard kickoff return in the first quarter, then Cooper Navarro and Malcolm Houze both made short touchdown runs. GC went to the air in the second period, starting with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jack Cherry.
The Knights were keeping up with the Golden Eagles, and the score was tied at 28-28 late in the second quarter. But a 39-yard touchdown pass from Houze to Fremion gave Guerin Catholic a 35-28 halftime lead, and the Golden Eagles would roll through the second half.
Guerin Catholic coach Tom Dilley had praise for Houze, who was making his third start after coming in for injured Ryan Zimmerman. Dilley said Houze “took a big step forward tonight. Made some nice reads and actually changed a couple plays the way he should have.”
Evan Guenthner began the third quarter with a field goal, after which Fremion collected a seven-yard touchdown pass from Houze. Justin Zdobylak let loose for a 44-yard run in the third to put GC ahead 52-28. Both teams added a fourth-quarter touchdown, with Navarro scoring for Guerin on a nine-yard run. Guenthner made all eight of his extra-point kicks.
Zdobylak totaled 125 yards rushing, while Fremion had five catches. Houze finished the game with three touchdowns.
The Golden Eagles are 4-3 and play next Friday at East Central.
