Family-friendly show opens Nov. 6 with free Seuss Movie Night this Friday
Grace Theatre will present Seussical, the Broadway musical based on the works of Dr. Seuss, in eight performances from Nov. 6 to 15 at Grace Church, 5504 E. 146th St., Noblesville.
Tickets are on sale now and start at $18, and organizers expect large audiences. A free Dr. Seuss Family Movie Night on Friday, Oct. 9, gives families an early look at the show’s world.
Seussical follows Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, and the citizens of Whoville through a story of loyalty, imagination, and the belief that “a person’s a person, no matter how small.” The community cast spans ages 9 to over 70, with local talent Ian Jones, a junior at Carmel High School, as Horton, Naomi Ober as Gertrude McFuzz, and Aaron Owens as the Cat in the Hat. The show is designed for ages 3 and up, and the 1 p.m. performance on Saturday, Nov. 7 is a Relaxed Performance for guests with sensory sensitivities.
Movie Night on Oct. 9 is free, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., free popcorn, and games. Guests can watch both Horton Hears a Who and The Lorax on the big screen. No RSVP is needed.
“Every year, we get to give our community the gift of joy through the arts and musical theatre,” said Amy Christie, Pastor of Worship Arts at Grace Church and director of Seussical. “This year’s cast ranges from a 9-year-old in their first show to cast members who’ve been performing for decades. I want families to see quality theatre without driving downtown or spending a fortune. Seussical is full of joy and laughs, and Horton’s story about listening to the smallest voice is a message we can all take to heart.”
The production marks more than 25 years of theatre at Grace Church, which has staged shows ranging from Les Misérables, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast to last year’s The Wizard of Oz. Christie, a Carmel High School graduate, directs. Seussical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
