Girls soccer: Carmel surges past Westfield, ‘Blazers win twice

A Monday all-county girls soccer game saw Class 3A No. 4 Carmel beat Westfield 3-0 at the Shamrocks field.
The game was scoreless in the first half, but the Greyhounds took control in the second half. Elyse Reed got Carmel’s first goal in the 45th minute off a double assist by Kelsie James and Morgan Parker.
Emily Roper then added two goals. Her first was in the 53rd minute, a header off a hard cross from the right flank by Emily Speidel. Roper’s second goal came nine minutes later, off a double assist by Emma Antoine and Cassidy Eckstein. Erin Baker had two goalkeeper saves.
Westfield’s Libby Rismiller made 11 saves for the Shamrocks.
The Greyhounds are 12-1-2 and host Center Grove at 7 p.m. tonight in both their final Metropolitan Conference and regular-season contests.
Westfield is 5-7-2 and hosts Avon at 5:30 p.m. tonight to finish Hoosier Crossroads Conference play.

University, ranked No. 11 in 1A, beat Triton Central 5-0 on Tuesday.
Senior Halle Von Ah had two goals and one assist for the Trailblazers, with seniors Lily Snyder and Lucy Snyder and freshman Sydney Epstein all getting one goal. Sophomore Brooke Toombs and freshman Audrey Blocksom both had one assist. Seniors Lydia Copeland, Hallie Harrison, Meredith Malott and junior Lilly Fair all played strong in the back.
University beat Sheridan 6-0 at the Blackhawks’ field in a Monday all-county game. Lily Snyder and Von Ah both had two goals for the Trailblazers, with Von Ah also making two assists and Snyder one. Junior Tessa Hudson scored two goals, while senior Brooke Andrus had one assist. Fair added another clean sheet in goal.
The Trailblazers are 9-3-2 and host Herron on Thursday. Sheridan will host Tipton at 5:30 p.m. today.
