Girls lacrosse: Royals drop close game to Cathedral

The Hamilton Southeastern girls varsity lacrosse team fell to Cathedral in a hard-fought, 8-7 game on Tuesday night.
The Royals had a solid first half, scoring six goals on nine shots, but struggled in the second half by only going 1 of 9. Southeastern also had a good defensive game, causing eight Cathedral turnovers.
Junior Sydney Schena led the way at both ends of the field, scoring two goals and one assist, while also collecting three ground balls, making three caused turnovers and getting three draw controls. Junior Ellie Nawa added two goals for the offense with seniors Sam Borgert, Ellie Fitzpatrick and Jenna Jenkins all finishing with one goal each. Jenkins also forced two turnovers.
Sam Borgert had another big game at draw by winning 73 percent of her draws. Borgert collected five draws on her own. Along with freshman Sarah Gastineau, the Royals finished the day at a 71 percent draw rate.
Southeastern plays at Carmel on Tuesday. The Junior Varsity Grey team plays first, at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game to follow.
