Girls basketball: Tigers, Huskies & Rocks off to good starts this week

Fishers used a strong start to win over Pendleton Heights 70-49 Monday at the Tiger Den.

The Tigers jumped out to a 21-8 lead after one quarter, with Joirdyn Smith, Nevaeh Dickman and Allison Scheu all hitting 3s; Dickman scored seven points. Fishers led 32-22 at halftime, then surged again in the third quarter by outscoring the Arabians 19-7 for a 51-29 lead. Smith drained two more 3s, then made another one in the fourth period.

Scheu led the Tigers with 18 points, followed by Dickman with 16, Smith with 14 and Talia Harris with 11.

Fishers is 9-3 and hosts Hamilton Southeastern Saturday in the Mudsock game.

Hamilton Heights, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, rolled past Kokomo 52-23 Tuesday at the Wildkats’ Memorial Gym.

The Huskies led 10-2 after one quarter and 25-9 at halftime. Heights had a perfect performance from the free-throw line by making all 13 of its shots. Camryn Runner was 8-of-8 and Ella Hickok went 5-for-5.

Runner scored 24 points, while Hickok added 16 points.

Heights is 10-1 and hosts West Lafayette on Thursday.

Westfield won a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at Avon Tuesday 65-56.

The game was tied 27-27 at halftime, but the Shamrocks roared ahead by scoring 23 points in the third quarter. Reagan Lorenzen poured in 23 points, with Ellie Kelleher adding 17 and Makayla Hatcher scoring 11 points off the bench.

A complete boxscore was unavailable at press time.

Westfield is 2-1 in the conference and 8-2 overall. The ‘Rocks host Noblesville Saturday afternoon in another HCC contest.
