The Noblesville girls basketball team used a big third quarter to score a 77-45 win over Anderson Tuesday at The Mill.
The first half was a tight one, although the Millers led for most of it. Noblesville was up 19-13 after the first quarter. Ashlynn Shade scored 13 points in that period alone, and she was just getting started.
The Millers led 35-29 at halftime, but then dominated the third period. Noblesville didn’t allow the Indians any points, while scoring 17 of its own. That gave the Millers a 52-29 advantage, and they steadily increased their lead during the fourth.
Noblesville coach Donna Buckley said that her team was trying to get its rhythm back after not playing for two days – there was no practice on Sunday, and the Millers were snowed out on Monday.
“Second half, I thought we settled in and were much better,” said Buckley.
Freshman Ashlynn Shade scored 34 points, her highest total of her still-young career. Shade also collected 11 rebounds for a double-double, in addition to making four steals and handing out four assists.
“We really have been on her about not settling for jump shots and getting into a rhythm by going to the basket,” said Buckley. “She did that really well. She’s done that the last couple games and gotten herself a rhythm, and then she really just started knocking down 3s and did a little of everything.”
Emily Wood added 13 points, while Mallory Miller scored 10 and dished out five assists. Abby Haley had four assists and four steals.
“Emily Wood has played very, very well for us, especially the last three games,” said Buckley. “She was outstanding against Fishers and then followed that up with another big game tonight. Mal Miller, she struggled a little bit, we kind of got on her. She really stepped up, answered that challenge and played much better in the second half.”
Noblesville is 4-8 and plays Saturday afternoon at Westfield.
