Mélange: concoction, mixture, combination.

The Mélange returns for springtime with a fresh and diverse pick of artists. In this series of performances brought to you by Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre (GHDT), audiences experience art coming to life in front of their eyes in an intimate theatrical setting. Each series features three unique and talented artists of different genres. Together they create art at The Florence in a collaborative and organic manner.

This Mélange Series features a vocalist, dancer, and visual artist. The dancer creates spontaneous movement inspired by the singer or vocalist, as the visual artist creates spontaneous art inspired by the dancer and the music. Audiences will experience live art in a new manner, bringing groundbreaking and creative art to central Indiana.

Audiences love the interactive nature of the Mélange performances. The artwork created during the performances is auctioned to audience members at the end of the performance.

The next production of the Mélange series features the vocal stylings of Evelyn Rai, the stunning visuals of artist Christina Hollering, and the dynamic artistry of dancer Cody Miley.

The performances are set for 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at The Florence, 329 Gradle Drive, Carmel. Tickets are $25 for general admission seating and can be purchased at this link.

Vocalist: Evelyn Rai

Evelyn Rai is a dynamic multi-genre vocalist whose music spans Gospel, Contemporary Gospel, Jazz, R&B, and Neo-Soul.

A native of Indianapolis, she began performing at age 5 and has since graced stages alongside Michael Bublé, CeCe Winans, and Ron Kenoly. She’s sung the National Anthem for the Indiana Pacers, recorded with Gospel Label Tyscott Records, and performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Internationally, she has walked on stage and performed with some of Ghana’s hottest Jazz players at +233 Jazz Bar & Grill, Ghana’s premier Jazz and Live Music Club. Her voice has been featured in national campaigns, including a Transition Lenses commercial and a winning Coca-Cola Christmas ad.

Locally, you can find her performing in Jazz venues and for private events. She regularly hosts an Open Mic event called OnTheMic to support and promote the local artist community.

Rai’s mission is simple yet profound: to worship, inspire, encourage, and heal. Her music reflects a life story of resilience and faith, transforming personal trials into songs that uplift and restore. With passion and authenticity, she captivates audiences and takes them on a soulful journey where melody and spirit meet.

Dancer: Cody Miley

Cody Miley was born in Baton Rouge, La., and moved to Texas when he was 13. Beginning his freshman year, he found his love for theatre and began training under the tutelage of Travis Poe. He would go on to win a state championship in One Act Play, as well as numerous acting and crew awards during his high school career. He also attended Tal Lastracco’s Summer theatre camp three years in a row, which strengthened his acting training.

After graduating high school, he attended McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, where he began his dance training under the tutelage of Jerry McLauchlin. He transferred to Sam Houston State University where he received his B.F.A. in acting and directing. He is a founding member of Nicolay Dance Works, led by artistic Director Dana Nicolay.

Miley just recently left Dance Kaleidoscope after a nine-year tenure. During his run, he performed in over 40 productions, spanning from 2016 to 2025, performing works from David Hochoy, Joshua Blake Carter, Brock Elliott, Keisha Lalama, Stephanie Martinez, Tsai-Hsi Hung to name a few. He has also had the opportunity to perform in several concert dance pieces as well as dance festivals, including the Houston Fringe Festival, the Bailando Dance Festival and the 2015 Dance Gallery Festival in New York City, appeared in Alamo City Dance Company’s presentation of The Nutcracker, and was a featured dancer for Blockhouse Studios’ NBA All-Star game video installation. He recently made his regional theatre debut as Ray in American Lives Theatre’s production of Red Speedo in January of 2025.

Miley said he is forever grateful for the opportunities he’s been blessed with and the continued support from his family and friends.

Visual Artist: Christina Hollering

Christina Hollering is a visual artist, muralist, and associate professor at Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis.
