Fishers wins, Southeastern & Sheridan fall on Thursday

The Fishers softball team got a 3-1 win at Yorktown on Thursday.

Yorktown scored its run in the bottom of the first inning, and held that 1-0 lead through four innings. Fishers got on the board in the fifth inning. Hannah Kinder drew a leadoff walk and was moved to second base on Kendall Jordan’s sacrifice bunt. Kate Murray then hit a left field home run, sending everyone home and giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Murray homered again to lead off the seventh inning, sending another ball over the left field fence. Murray also got the pitching win, throwing five innings in relief with seven strikeouts. Brooke Johnson and Jenna Grubb each hit a double.

Fishers is 6-3 and plays Saturday morning at Center Grove.

Hamilton Southeastern dropped a 9-7 game to Lawrence North on Thursday.

The Wildcats scored a run in the top of the first inning, but the Royals answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Payton Fox doubled in Addy Justice for the tying run, then Morgan Hicks brought Fox home with a single.

Lawrence North tied the game at 2-2 with a second-inning run, then hit three RBI doubles to go up 6-2 in the third inning. Southeastern got two back in the bottom of the third: Justice got on base with a bunt, then moved to third base on Fox’s double, her second of the game. Justice scored on Jenna Chase’s RBI groundout and Hicks hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Fox.

Both teams added three runs in the fourth inning. The Wildcats led 9-4 in the middle of the inning. Fox then smacked a home run in the bottom of the fourth, also scoring Lani Wyrick and Justice. Wyrick hit a double to get on base.

Fox and Justice both were 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Royals are 10-3 and play two games at the Whiteland Warrior Invitational on Saturday. Southeastern takes on East Central at 9 a.m. and Brownstown Central at 11:30 a.m.

Sheridan fell to Eastern 11-0 Thursday in a Hoosier Heartland Conference game.

Jacquellynne Bates had the lone hit for the Blackhaws. Sheridan is 1-9 and hosts Clinton Central on Tuesday in another HHC contest.
