Fishers sweeps regional titles at Delta

Fishers scored a cross country sweep at the Muncie Sports Complex on Saturday.
The Tigers won both the boys and girls championships at the Delta regional. It was the first ever regional title for the girls, and the third for the boys. Both teams will also race in the New Haven semi-state next Saturday, as will Hamilton Southeastern, who was the runner-up in both the boys and girls races.
Fishers’ girls edged out the Royals by six points, 30-36. The Tigers had four runners place in the top 10, with freshman Vera Schafer placing third and Abigail Carter fifth. Teresa Kraft took sixth, Elizabeth Barrett was seventh and Debbie Shera ninth.
Southeastern was led by Lulu Black, the individual runner-up. Lilly Cummins took fourth, Halle Hill was eighth and Maddie Mirro finished 10th.
The Fishers boys landed four runners in the top five on their way to scoring 24 points. Alex Meyer was the runner-up, with Drew Smith taking third, Ethan Meyer fourth and Jared Halamka fifth.
Southeastern’s boys scored 57 points. Eric Swinson finished sixth and Eric Carothers placed ninth.

Over at Noblesville’s Chinquapin Ridge Cross Country Course at White River Elementary School, three Hamilton County boys teams and two girls teams finished in the top five and qualified for the Shelbyville semi-state, as did a handful of individuals.
In the boys race, Carmel placed second with 51 points, just behind champion Cathedral’s 41. Westfield took fourth with 127 and the Millers finished fifth with 140, getting past Brebeuf Jesuit by one point for the final qualifying spot.
The Greyhounds had three top 10 individuals: Grant Moon placed sixth, Cameron Harless was ninth and Patrick Campbell finished 10th.
“This was a great battle between two serious contenders for the state championship,” said Carmel coach Colin Altevogt.
Westfield was led by Samuel Novak’s 19th place finish, while Travis Hickner took 17th for Noblesville.
Two Guerin Catholic individuals also qualified for the semi-state round. Quinn Gallagher was the individual runner-up, while Joseph Barrett finished 37th.
In the girls race, Noblesville was the team runner-up, finishing with 74 points. Brebeuf Jesuit won the regional trophy with 60 points, including the top two runners. Carmel finished fourth with 90 points.
Sophie Reichard placed ninth for the Millers, while Jamie Klavon was 11th for the Greyhounds.
Four county runners qualified as individuals: Guerin Catholic’s Elizabeth Schroeder placed fourth, while teammate Isabelle Museck took 29th and will join her at semi-state. Hamilton Heights’ Maria Mitchell advanced with a sixth-place finish, while Westfield’s Christyann Delahunty took 27th and also will run at semi-state.
