City joins list of seven other cities to receive inaugural award
The City of Fishers has been named a winner of the inaugural Amazon Web Services (AWS) State and Local Government Champion Award, a program recognizing organizations that are driving digital transformation with cloud computing to better serve constituents.
Fishers was one of eight cities and 10 states to receive this award recognizing innovative use of AWS cloud services to drive digital transformation. Award recipients were announced at the AWS IMAGINE Conference in July.

“Innovation has always been a key priority for the City of Fishers,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said. “Our IT department and Business Solutions Group are committed to finding inventive and seamless solutions to organizational challenges, including modernizing more than 100 applications that have allowed our staff to work more efficiently and better serve our community. We are honored to join this cohort of technology leaders from around the country.”
The city’s successes in technology include:
- Launched Fishers SmartPass in conjunction with the Geist Waterfront Park opening, which provides single sign on, digital identity functionality for citizens to access city amenities.
- Utilized AWS cloud storage solutions to reduce storage costs of larger data that is accessed infrequently but required to be stored for long periods of time, such as video surveillance.
- Utilized next generation network design, cybersecurity technologies and procedures.
- Adopted hybrid infrastructure – using city equipment with cloud-based virtual equipment and services – to allow for a more affordable, scalable, robust, and highly available network, data, and resources to city staff and citizens.
- Installed digital access control at city buildings and park facilities for staff, citizens, and contractors.
- Implemented cloud-based data warehouse for key data replication for business intelligence reporting, process improvement, and opportunity for machine learning and automation.
With this award, Fishers joins the AWS Education Champions community. The Champions program celebrates public sector agencies whose work empowers innovation and transformation in education and government using the AWS Cloud.
