Fishers boys open season with win at Ben Davis

The Fishers boys basketball team got a big win to open up its season, going on the road to take on No. 13-ranked Ben Davis and coming home with a 69-61 victory.
The Tigers are ranked No. 8 in the pre-season one-class poll, but found themselves down 16-11 to the Giants after the first quarter. But Fishers blasted back in the second period, pouring in 23 points to move ahead 34-32 by halftime. Senior Jeffrey Simmons scored 10 points in the second quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers. He led the Tigers scoring with 12 points in the first half. Freshman Jalen Haralson had 11 points during the half, including a 5-of-5 effort from the free-throw line.
The third quarter was almost even, with Fishers leading 46-43 afer the period was over. Bryce Williams scored five points for the Tigers in that quarter. Fishers then took care of business in the fourth quarter, adding in another 23 points. That included a 14-of-16 performance from the foul line. Charlie Smith made nine of 10 free throws during the quarter.
Four Tigers players reached double figures. Simmons led with 19 points, including three 3s. Haralson added 14 points, Williams scored 13, and Smith had 11, all of them from free throws. He finished 11 of 12 from the line.
Fishers plays its home opener next Tuesday, Nov. 30, against Metropolitan.
