Doyle Jacob Essig

May 2, 1942 – February 23, 2024

Doyle Jacob Essig, 81, Conover, N.C., formerly of Noblesville, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Cardinal Health Center in Lincoln, N.C. Born May 2, 1942, in Noblesville, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary L. (Smith) Essig.

Doyle was a 1961 graduate of Sheridan High School. Shortly after graduation he put in his application with Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, taking the first steps of what would become a wonderful 33-year adventure. Though much of his time at Riverview was spent as an orderly, he wasn’t defined by just his title. Whenever he saw a need, he was there to lend a hand. Doyle never had the “it’s not part of my job” mindset. Each day he went from department to department, doing what he did best – helping where he could, and making the workday a little easier for everybody on shift.

Doyle had many interests outside of work. This led him to become involved in various clubs throughout his life, including membership in the Good Sam Club, National Handyman Club, National Cooking Club, and National Gardening Club. He was also a dedicated member of the Moose Lodge #540 in Noblesville.

His gentle spirit and strong sense of faith helped him live a life dedicated to caring for others. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of working with him and having him be a part of their life.

Doyle is survived by his cousins, Charles Smith, Donna Dillow, Anna Belle Robertson, and Mary Mkiels (Jerry). Mary and her husband, Jerry, were Doyle’s devoted caregivers for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary L. (Smith) Essig; brother, Royce M. Essig; and by his cousin, Phillip Smith.

Private family services will be held at Kercheval Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Doyle will be laid to rest at Boxley Cemetery in Boxley, Ind.
