David L. Copenhaver, 92, Noblesville, passed away on October 24, 2023. He was born on August 16, 1931, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Hilbert H. and Mary E. (House) Copenhaver. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol G. Beall, in May of 1953.
David served in the military, playing French horn in the U.S. Navy Band followed by a 35-year career with the telephone company. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning his rank of Eagle Scout. He volunteered many hours as a leader in Boy Scout Troop 451 in Indianapolis and took great pride in watching his three sons and several grandsons follow in his footsteps by achieving Eagle Scout as well. He was devout in his faith and was a critical part of building Bethel Lutheran Church in Noblesville and was an active member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church. He and Carol enjoyed traveling, camping, canoeing, and seeking new adventures all of their life. They travelled overseas on several trips and pulled their trailer for 55 years all over the U.S., to Alaska, and deep into Mexico. They were also a part of Latin American Lutheran Mission based in Laredo, Texas, serving with their hands and sharing their faith internationally. He passed on his love of the outdoors and his faith to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Carol Copenhaver; two sons, Mark (Peg) Copenhaver and Paul (Becky) Copenhaver; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Thabo) Fletcher, Christopher Copenhaver, Anna (Kyle) Sichting, Jonathan Copenhaver, Jacqueline Copenhaver, Benjamin (Stephanie) Copenhaver, and Matthew (Zoe) Copenhaver; and five great-grandchildren, Cameron Sichting, Morgan Sichting, Samuel Fletcher, Kinslee Copenhaver, and Eli Copenhaver. He was preceded in passing by a son, Jeffery Copenhaver; grandson, Jeffery Copenhaver Jr.; and a brother, Hilbert Copenhaver Jr.
Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 4283 E. 191st St., Westfield. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
