County will have 24 high school seniors at Boys State

Hamilton County will have 24 delegates to this year’s Hoosier Boys State, one of the larger delegations for the 85th annual conference. Chosen by their high schools, delegates will meet June 12 at Trine University in Angola.

The annual week-long event is sponsored by the Indiana Department of the American Legion for incoming seniors who show leadership skills and academic achievement.

The program allows participants to learn and practice the elective process for  public officials at the state, county, and local levels. Top performers will advance to Boys Nation in Washington, D.C., later in the summer, along with delegates from the other states.

Delegates from Noblesville are Jacob Norris, Henry Wasemann, Samuel Landers, Sayna Jeong, John David Wax and Thomas Whalen.

Delegates from Carmel are Jacob Bailey, Leonard Rubchinsky, Charles Meyer, Julien Doty, Jordan Seigel, Leim Courtney, Shinwoo Lee and Jaxon Lyon.

Delegates from Hamilton Southeastern are Kaleb Johnson and Owen O’Rourke.

Others include Aidan Benner of Westfield; Brayden Dack, Hamilton Heights; Caden Leonard, International High School; Vincent Mann, Guerin Catholic; Grant Homerickhouse, Lapel; and Elijah DeKryter, Luke Tiernon, and Wade Wahlin of Heritage Christian.

Girls State will convene June 19 also on the Trine campus. following a similar format as Boys State. It is sponsored by the Indiana American Legion Auxiliary.
