Consistent & strong: Greyhounds secure victory at county championship

The Carmel girls track and field team won the Hamilton County championship, which took place Wednesday at Noblesville’s Beaver Stadium after a one-day delay.

The Greyhounds scored 134.5 points. Carmel did not win any individual events, but did have consistent performances across the board. That included runner-up finishes for Sadie Foley in the 1600 run, Gabriela Grande Rosas in the 400 dash, Maija Gilhooly in the 300 hurdles, Emily Norris in the 200 dash, and the 4×800 and 4×100 relays.

Fishers was the runner-up team with 122.5 points. Maya Taylor led a 1-2 finish in the 100 dash, with Mireya Benjamin placing second. Taylor picked up a second victory in the 200 dash, and was part of the winning 4×100 relay, along with Benjamin, Zinnia Pineda and Kylee Black.

Noblesville placed third by scoring 104.5 points. The Millers claimed three field event wins, with Hannah Alexander sweeping the shot put and discus and Delaney Teachnor winning the pole vault. Summer Rempe added a victory in the 1600 run.

Hamilton Southeastern finished a close fourth with 103.5 points. The Royals began the meet by winning the 4×800 relay and completed the meet with a 4×400 relay victory. In between, Ciara Kepner won the 400 dash and Anissa Lammie triumphed in the 800 run.

Westfield totaled 89.5 points for fifth place. Lucy Hauser swept the 100 and 300 hurdles, Liz Smith claimed the 3200 run and Gracie Czubik was the long jump winner.

Hamilton Heights scored 50 points to take sixth place. Waverly Woolever won the high jump.
