Celebrating 250 years of America through music

Photo provided by Songbook Foundation

Music has long brought people together across generations, communities, and cultures.

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, this month’s Perfect Harmony® resources celebrate the many voices and musical traditions that help tell the story of our nation. Featuring songs connected to folk, swing, rock ‘n’ roll, soul, and Latin music, these free resources invite older adults, care partners, families, and music lovers of all ages to explore how music can encourage self-expression and foster meaningful connection.

This month’s featured songs include Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land,” Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” the Doobie Brothers’ “Listen to the Music,” Lionel Richie’s “Stuck on You,” and the beloved bolero “Contigo en la Distancia.”
