Carmel’s own Maverick McCoy named valedictorian of Indiana Connections Academy Class of 2026

More than 1,000 students recently graduated from Indiana Connections Academy, a tuition-free full-time online public virtual school serving students statewide in grades K-12.

As part of the Class of 2026, the diverse and accomplished group of graduates collectively earned nearly $1 million in scholarships and awards. Students attending the full-time online public virtual school gathered from across the state for an in-person ceremony at Corteva Coliseum with family, friends, and teachers to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.

Of interest to readers of this newspaper is that Carmel native Maverick McCoy was named valedictorian his class, graduating early to attend the University of Notre Dame. He is majoring in finance and playing soccer for the university.

McCoy chose Indiana Connections Academy for the flexibility required to pursue his passion for soccer without compromising his education. In addition to school work and soccer, he started his own landscaping business. The independence of virtual schooling allowed him to balance rigorous coursework with the demands of athletics and entrepreneurship.

“Indiana Connections Academy genuinely changed the trajectory of my life,” McCoy said. “It gave me the tools, the flexibility and the support, especially from teachers like Mr. Lanter, to become the person I am today.”

At Notre Dame, he finds that the time management and self-discipline skills honed in school are essential as he balances the high expectations of a prestigious university with his commitment to collegiate soccer.
